Thiago Santos claims Jon Jones was a slower hitter than Johnny Walker

Thiago Santos recently beat Johnny Walker in the main event at UFC Vegas 38. The fight was billed as a barn burner, but Santos barely managed to secure a unanimous decision victory.

Thiago Santos is back in the winning column after a three-fight slippage that started against Jon Jones at UFC 239. ‘Marreta’ has now claimed Johnny Walker has more speed in his shots than Jones. According to Santos, Walker’s speed took him by surprise, considering the size of his fellow Brazilian. Santos said in the post-fight presser at UFC Vegas 38:

“Like I told you, I’m surprised how fast he’s going, you know. [Johnny Walker] is tall. I fought against Jon (Jones). Jon is tall too, but he’s a bit slower than him. He’s tall but he’s fast and explosive you know. Make it so sharp, you know. I did everything I trained for and yeah it went well. “

Rounds 2 and 5 were very close.

Thiago Santos then claimed he won the fight against Jon Jones. According to Santos, the decision shifted to “Bones” due to his champion status. Santos told ESPN in a 2019 interview:

“It’s hard for me to watch. That’s why I took so long to watch it. If I was a judge, I would have given this fight to Thiago Santos. I think I won rounds 1, 2 and 5. I think that Jones being the champion weighed on the judges’ decision. I think the challenger needs to do more to take the champion’s belt. There must be a rematch. As soon as I’m at 100%, you have to go back and find a real winner.
