JoAnne A. Epps has been appointed to the Board of Directors as a new independent director. Epps brings the total number of directors to eight, seven of whom are considered independent by Nasdaq Stock Exchange listing standards.
Epps is a senior advisor to the president of Temple University. From 2016 to 2021, Epps served as executive vice president and provost of Temple. She has been a faculty member at Temple’s Beasley School of Law since 1985 and a full professor since 1994, teaching the fundamentals of litigation to first-year law students and criminal procedure, evidence and advocacy to advanced law students. Previously, she was Dean of the Faculty of Law from 2008 to 2016 and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 1989 to 2008.
During her time in Temple, Epps was named four times on the National Jurist’s list of the 25 Most Influential People in Legal Education. Prior to beginning her college career, Epps served as the United States Assistant Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1980 to 1985 and Assistant City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles from 1976 to 1980. Epps was called to the Bar of the Supreme Court the United States. as well as in California, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Epps sits on the board of directors of PREIT, a publicly traded real estate investment trust that owns and operates shopping centers. As a trustee, she is a member of the nomination and governance and audit committees. In addition, she is an active member of the American Bar Association, the American Law Institute, the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, the National Bar Association, the Society of American Law Teachers, and the Pennsylvania Women’s Forum.
Epps holds a BA from Trinity College and a JD from Yale Law School.
