More than a million pensioners have received a cost of living payment of £326 since July.

And pensioners are set to get an extra £474 in winter bill help in the fall.

The free money is part of the £650 cost of living payment and the £150 warm house discount.

However, pensioners who have not yet submitted a pension credit application should do so now to secure the £800 financial aid.

The aid will come in handy as some energy bills are expected to average £4,000 from October.

But with millions missing out on £13billion in unclaimed benefits, now is the time to act.

According to the Department for Work and Pensions’ own research, around 850,000 households are not claiming pension credit worth £1.7billion, meaning many miss out on cost of living payments and will not be eligible for the Warm Home Discount.

Charity, Age UK is urging older people to apply for pension credit if they think they are eligible.

They previously told The Sun: ‘We urge any senior who is struggling at this time to apply for pension credit by August 18.

Successful pension credit claims can be backdated up to three months, so retirees must submit their claims by August 18 to qualify for the cost of living payment and November 18 to get the Warm Home discount.

What is the pension credit?

The pension credit is offered in two parts: the guarantee credit and the savings credit. You can be eligible for both.

The collateral credit is a supplement to your weekly income and the savings credit is an extra boost if you have savings or a higher income.

Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director at Age UK, said: ‘The Pension Credit not only provides an income boost and eligibility for the £650 payment, it opens the door to many other supports including help for energy bills and council tax, NHS dental care and a free TV license (for over 75s).”

What is the deadline for obtaining the cost of living payment of £650?

You will need to submit your claim to the DWP by August 18 to ensure that your claim can be backdated to include at least one day in the original reference period (April 26 to May 25).

If you submit your request later, the DWP may not be able to process your request in time.

If you miss the deadline, your application will not be backdated to the £650 qualification period and you will miss payment.

When is the deadline to apply for the Warm Home discount?

If you don’t qualify for the Warm Home discount by August 21, don’t worry.

You should be able to benefit from the scheme if you subsequently make a successful claim for benefits within three months.

You will need to submit a successful pension credit claim by Friday 18 November to secure the automatic £150 rebate on your energy bills this winter.
