With a wealth of legal experience, barrister Kathryn Day has been practicing law since October 2021, quickly earning the trust of everyday Canberrans with her warm guidance in their most difficult times.
Kathryn worked internationally in the legal field, briefly in Canada before arriving in Australia in 2000.
After moving here for love, Kathryn became a paralegal that year, finding Blumers’ personal injury lawyers soon after she was established in the ACT 22 years ago.
“It was my very first job in a brand new country,” she smiles.
Kathryn became a paralegal in 2013, while studying her law degree at the University of Canberra.
As a young mother of four, she was always interested in law, “but I didn’t have the courage to do anything until 2013, when my husband gave me a card from Saint -Valentin with the application fees to return to school”.
“What I loved about practicing law then is still true today – the ability to help people in a way that expands what I could do as a legal assistant,” says Kathryn . Today, she works as a lawyer in the same office where she was hired more than two decades ago.
“Now, as a lawyer, I know it’s a very difficult profession and the more I do it, the more I love it.”
Much like Blumers herself, Kathryn has years of experience exclusively in the personal injury field, providing knowledgeable, focused and specialist service, and has found it forever at home within the tight-knit community of Canberra.
“I’ve always found Canberra to be very family oriented, and Blumers is an example of that,” she says.
“When I first met Mark and Noor [Blumer], I was brand new to the country and felt a little insecure. I was pregnant with my first at the time, and they knew it, and I thought that would rule me out.
” But this is not the case. I knew immediately that Mark and Noor were ahead of their time. They didn’t treat me any different than anyone else, which turned into 22 years with them,” Kathryn smiles.
“As a business, Blumers exemplifies what Canberra is – a close-knit, family-oriented community.
“I received invaluable assistance during my transition from paralegal to lawyer. The administrators provided me with expert guidance and counsel, but they also allowed me to develop my own style of legal practice.
“There is an African proverb: ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
“As a law firm, we don’t practice alone here, we practice together – and that’s what allows us to go far.”
In her role as a lawyer, Kathryn strives to earn the trust invested by clients in need of help in vulnerable situations.
“I try to approach each case with empathy. What I hear the most is that my clients trust me, which is the biggest compliment I can receive.
For a lawyer you can trust, find Kathryn Day at Blumers Lawyers, Level 12, 15 London Circuit, Canberra City.
“I cannot thank Kathryn and Phil enough for their help and guidance in my medical negligence case. They kept me informed and updated on my case and its progress and ensured that we had a fantastic outcome. I highly recommend them!”
